Granting to Strengthen
Rural ND Communities with Education and Related Quality of Life Projects.

What We Fund

The Burgum Foundation focuses on education and enrichment-related projects that raise the quality of life in rural communities in ND like the following:
 

General Rural Education Opportunities: 

The Burgum Foundation provides general funding for rural education programs, such as grants for curriculum, professional development, and enrichment opportunities for students and teachers. 

Behavioral Health Services in Rural Schools:

Collaborating with rural schools and their chosen health care provider to bring therapy and other support services to students in rural communities (select general support on the application)

 

Teacher Leadership Academies:
North Dakota Universities are partnering with local school districts to offer a Master’s in Leadership.

The Burgum Foundation awards grants principally for program support and capacity building.  Under special circumstances, the Foundation will consider capital projects that align with the Foundation’s guidelines.

Selection Criteria 

When possible, in addition to written applications, site visits serve as the basis for evaluating grant requests. Priority is given to organizations that are efficiently managed, financially viable, and operate effective programs. 

Burgum Foundation makes grants only to nonprofit organizations that qualify for public charity status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.   

Grant Rounds

Burgum Foundation accepts grant applications on a rolling basis and  evaluates and disburses grants twice each year at the following times:

Spring Grant Round:

Please submit applications by April 30th. 

Fall Grant Round:

Please submit applications by September 30th. 

If your application is time-sensitive, please indicate that on your application along with an explanation. Burgum Foundation will evaluate if it is possible for time-sensitive applications to be expedited.  

 

If you miss the submission deadline, you are still welcome to submit your application, and we will consider it in the following grant round.
